Human Rights Council - HRC

President Chairs

  • Claire Park - President Chair

    Greetings, all delegates!

I am Claire Park from Wellington College International Shanghai, and I am honored to be your president. Since joining MUN in 2022, I have participated in five conferences where I served as both a delegate and a president. As a matter of fact, I was just awarded as the Best Delegate of this committee for the previous year’s SHAMUN conference!

Engaging with passionate delegates in the MUN community is a true joy, and I look forward to your thorough preparation, active participation, and diplomatic collaboration. Who knows-perhaps you might be the next president of the Human Rights Council at SHAMUN!

My specialization will be combatting the global prevalence of child and forced marriage. This issue, rooted in gender inequality, cultural traditions, and economic pressures for countless generations, leads to lifelong deprivation, thus denying children education, health, and protection.

For any inquiries or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me

  • Marcus Perez - Deputy President

Hi guys my name is Marcus!

I am a Junior at SAS PUXI and this will be my first time chairing. I will be covering the second topic, which is about protecting children’s rights in the Central African Republic so if you need any advice or research suggestions, be sure to email me. I strive to be a chill chair, so feel free to make mistakes I'll correct you on the side. Also, be sure to come prepared as I'm looking forward to helping you delegates facilitate debate and find meaningful solutions to this worrisome issue.

Considering this may be the first time MUN delegates participate in a conference, I hope that by the time this conference ends, all you delegates have managed to learn something meaningful. Whether it's about the importance of teamwork or how developing detailed and thorough resolutions will likely succeed in conferences. Finally, I'd advise delegates to participate as much as possible, because we're only giving out a few awards. :)

  • Emily Shen - Deputy President

    Greetings, delegates!

My name is Emily, and I am a current 10th grader at Shanghai American School Puxi. I have been involved in MUN for around 5 years, and I am honored to serve as the Deputy President of the Human Rights Council.

I will be specializing in “addressing the use of violence and discrimination against indigenous people in Honduras” out of the three HRC topics this year. Being a part of South America, a significant part of Honduras’ population is composed of indigenous or descendants of indigenous people. In 1995, the Honduran government approved the International Labor Convention No. 169 as recognition of the right of Indigenous peoples, and in 2007, supported the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. However, it is reported that Indigenous communities continue to receive threats and acts of violence, as well as overall discrimination. At this conference, we will hope to tackle this problem and create effective solutions for the issues at hand.

I look forward to meeting you all at this year’s SHAMUN conference!
