Crisis Committee
President Chairs

Chris Herman - President Chair
Hello delegates! My name is Chris, and I’m honored to serve as your Crisis Committee President for SHAMUN LITE II. While this will unfortunately be the last MUN conference of my high school career, I’m glad that I’ll be able to finish it off with a bang.
No other committee does immersion quite like Crisis. Those returning for their second or third time likely know what I mean; playing a real person rather than a country instantly adds nuances that you can sometimes miss in normal debate. Of course, having the power to organize, spy, kill, and much more on top of that makes any crisis experience the most complex – and the most fun– MUN experience you can get.
It helps that this year’s topic– Yugoslav Wars– is the most complex topic I’ve ever seen in Crisis. Despite this, I’m confident that you’ll leave this conference having improved your sense of diplomacy, history, and maybe acting(?).
See you there!

Teresa Chen - Deputy President Chair
Hi, everyone! My name is Teresa, and I'm a senior at SAS Puxi—I'm so happy to serve as your DP for this year's Crisis Committee, in my last high school conference ever. I can't lie: Having participated in MUN as everything from committee admin to secretary-general, even my favorite memories of this program carry an undertone of stress, but it's committees like Crisis that make it all worth it. I started my MUN journey five years ago in a Crisis Committee, generally terrified but, more importantly, in awe of everyone's quick thinking and easy confidence, traits that define all the best Crisis delegates I've met in years since. In retrospect, I owe so much of my own growth and so many cherished friendships to this committee.
This year's topic on the dissolution of Yugoslavia will hopefully stir some challenging discussions and thoughtful policymaking—we can attest after completing the report, there are infinitely many nuances and footnotes in this conversation that can seem impossible to consider at once. For that reason, I look forward to seeing all of you in debate! Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.on goes here

Cooper Sare-Pierce - Backroom
Hello!
My name is Cooper (as it says above), and I’m super duper excited to be running crisis backroom at SHAMUN Lite this year. If you’ve participated in crisis at previous SHAMUN’s you might know me, since i’ve been in the backroom for three years now.
My biggest thing is that I try my best to make sure everyone is having a good time.
If you have any ideas, even if they might be a little bit on the crazy side, please just shoot your shot - the worst we can say is no! I can guarantee you we’ve seen stranger things as a backroom.
Crisis is (don’t tell the other committees I said this) in my opinion the MUN committee that allows for the most true expression in your speaking and delegating style. Although I’m not up front talking to you guys directly, we still love to experience all the different ideas and perspectives that you guys bring to committee.
Remember: our job is to mold the committee around you! So don’t be afraid to express yourself, and we’ll try our best to keep up.
I look forward to chairing my final conference as backroom president, and good luck and have fun to all of you delegates!

Jasmine Wu - Backroom
Hi everyone!
My name is Jasmine and I’m a junior at SAS Puxi. This is my third year in MUN – I can’t express how passionate I am about this program. This is my fourth time engaging with the Crisis Committee, which has unknowingly become my personal favorite.
The Crisis Committee is one of the most intriguing committees – a dynamic storyline hand-shaped by delegates, some very in-character speeches from passionate delegates, and, as always, some crisis updates from backroom to spice things up.
I’m extremely honored and excited to serve as your backroom staff for SHAMUN Lite. The topic for this Crisis is the Yugoslav Wars, a very nuanced topic with multiple parties with opposing and shifting interests. It will be a valuable opportunity for delegates to attempt to balance conflicting interests on multiple sides through firsthand diplomacy.
As part of the backroom staff, I will do my best to support smooth communication between frontroom and backroom, ensure all notes are well received, and that delegates would have a fun and stimulating experience in the Crisis Committee.
The Crisis Committee is challenging, but I promise you'll gain tremendous knowledge after it. You’ll make friends too.
I look forward to seeing all of you on the SAS Puxi campus soon!

Albert Zhang - Backroom
Hello delegates
My name is Albert, I’m a Sophomore from SAS Puxi and this is my 4th crisis with SHAMUN and 2nd time serving as backroom officer. I can’t wait to find out who will get brutally assassinated this crisis! As backroom officers, we will make sure that this committee runs smoothly, and ensure that the debate will be logical, stimulating, and most importantly, fun and chaotic. Crisis is the best part of MUN and I am so fortunate to be a part of this magical journey. Please feel free to reach out in case you have any questions or concerns.
