World Health Assembly - WHA

President Chairs

  • Chelsea Choi - President Chair

    Greetings, all delegates!

My name is Chelsea, and I am a senior at SASPX. This is my 6th year in MUN, and this is my 19th conference and 6th time chairing. I am honored to serve you as the president of the World Health Assembly for this year's SHAMUN.

My topic of specialization is "Improving frameworks for infectious disease prevention and response." Even a year after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency preparedness frameworks need continual improvement. Many less economically developed countries in the world are unequipped to respond to outbreaks, severely lacking not only medical infrastructure, but also transportation infrastructure, education, communication infrastructure, and more. Among the more economically developed countries, this issue becomes a matter of transparency and data-sharing, as disease outbreaks tend to impact trade and travel. As the threat of another pandemic always remains, improving disease response frameworks are crucial to global health security.

I look forward to a fruitful debate and seeing all of you in October!

  • Daniel Wang - Deputy President

Hello delegates! My name is Daniel Wang, a sophomore at Suzhou Singapore International School. This is my ninth MUN conference, and my 4th as a chair.

MUN has always been something I was immensely passionate about since starting it 2 years ago. From there, I have realized that MUN is such an important activity in involving diplomatic discourse and logical thinking, far beyond wearing fancy suits and getting to stay in hotels. My experiences in MUN have helped me acquire countless skills in debating and interacting with my peers, and I always like to say that even if you have been to 100 conferences, the 101st conference will always bring the same sense of adrenaline and fulfillment (you can never go to too many conferences).

For this conference, I will be focusing on the question of global standards for euthanasia and assisted dying, a relatively novel but extremely controversial issue within the medical field today, leading us to ponder issues science, law, and ethics at the same time.

If you have any questions about it or the conference as a whole, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

  • Melonie Ma - Deputy President

    Greetings, delegates!

My name is Melonie Ma and I am currently a freshman at SHSID. It is my honor to serve as the Deputy President of the World Health Assembly this year. I have been participating in MUN conferences for the past 1.5 years, with this year’s SHAMUN as my 6th conference and first time chairing.

The topic that I will be focusing on is strengthening health emergency preparedness for disasters resulting from natural hazards. As an issue that affects most countries in the world,

addressing this issue is significant in achieving global health and economic equity, and in a world with 87% of the deaths caused by natural hazards appear in Less Economic Developed Countries (LEDCs), our efforts are crucial to building a healthier future for all.

As the Deputy President, I strongly recommend all delegates to research on all three topics beforehand thoroughly so that making speeches in the conference would be a lot easier. Moreover, I hope all delegates could try their best to participate actively in the sessions, as I believe that it will be a great opportunity to learn, improve, and most importantly, make friends. If you have any questions about the topics, please feel free to contact me.

Looking forward to seeing you all in October!
